Hi, I'm Amy, the hands and heart behind The Soft Hours.

This business didn't start as a business at all. It started with grief.

In 2020, I lost Daisy — my 12-year-old golden retriever who had been by my side through everything. The quiet mornings without her nose nudging my hand. The empty spot on the couch where she'd curl up. The way my heart would forget for just a second, and I'd turn to call her name.

Photos helped. But they weren't enough.

I needed something I could hold. Something tangible. Something that captured not just what she looked like, but who she was — her gentle spirit, her warmth, the way she made the world feel softer.

That's when I discovered needle felting.

The Journey

I'd never considered myself particularly artistic. But grief has a way of teaching you things you never thought you'd learn.

I started with YouTube tutorials, practicing on cheap wool from craft stores. My first attempts were honestly terrible — lumpy, misshapen, nothing like Daisy. But I kept going.

I learned about layering colours. About building up texture. About capturing the subtle details that make a pet uniquely theirs — the tilt of an ear, the pattern of their markings, the expression in their eyes.

It took months of learning and refining before I found the right approach — understanding not just the techniques, but how to create something that truly honoured a pet's memory.

A little world where she was forever present, forever mine. I kept it on my nightstand. Some mornings, I'd wake up and just hold it for a minute before starting my day.

How The Soft Hours Was Born

I posted a photo on Facebook, not thinking much of it. Just sharing something that had helped me heal.

Within a week, five people messaged me asking if I could make one for them.

That's how The Soft Hours was born — not from a business plan, but from other people who understood. People who had lost their own companions and were looking for something more than a photo. Something they could hold close when the grief felt overwhelming.

Since 2021, we've created over 100 custom pet memorial keepsakes. Each one is different because each pet is different — every portrait, sculpture, and Memory World sanctuary is made to honour one specific companion, and the design is never repeated.

How We Work

Every piece is handcrafted here in Sydney. No mass production. No shortcuts. Just careful, patient work — the kind of work that honours the love you had for your pet.

We create Wool Felt Portraits — framed needle-felted likenesses of your pet's face, available in multiple sizes. For those who want something they can hold rather than hang, our Wool Felt Sculptures are full-body 3D pieces made from 100% Australian merino wool, with hand-painted glass eyes and a hand-sculpted clay nose, sized to sit in the palm of your hand.

Wool Felt Sculptures can also be upgraded to a Memory World Sanctuary — a preserved botanical scene housed in a glass dome, where your pet lives on in a little world of moss, dried flowers, and natural elements.

Every piece uses premium Australian wool, hand-dyed to match your pet's exact colouring. The materials are chosen to last — wool doesn't fade or deteriorate like photographs, and preserved botanicals are selected for longevity.

But more than the materials, what goes into every piece is understanding. I've been where you are. I know the ache of that empty space. And I know how much it means to have something tangible to hold onto.
